Yoga Tourism in India
What Yoga means and means of Yoga : The word yoga means "unity" or "oneness" derives from the Sanskrit word " yog" which means to join. Yoga is a means of balancing and harmonizing the body, mind and emotions. The yoga postures or asanas exercise every part of body they work not only on the body frame but also on the internal organs, glands and nerves as well, keeping all system in radiant health.

The one aspect of human mind is that it seldom rests as it never remains fixed on a single subject or object. Mind is just thinking, thinking, and thinking, and wandering in a boundary less expanse. To achieve concentration is the major goal in yoga a state in which the mind is constantly undergoing modification. Physical and mental therapy is one of the most important achievements of yoga bringing holistic harmony to mind and body.

What we know of today, as handed down by our forefathers, many of the yogasanas (postures) are named after and reflect the movements of different animals. Through observation our forefathers understood how animals live in harmony with their particular postures and how the hormonal secretions could be stimulated and controlled by it. This is done through the practice of asana (the physical exercise), pranayama (the breathing technique), and mudra (position of gesture) which represents the psychic bandhan (locks for channeling energy).

The word yoga - unity or joining – has also been described in spiritual term as the harmonious union of Shiva (the supreme consciousness) with his consort the Shakti (energy) and this is the central theme of yoga the unification called Shiva-Shakti. Besides achieving the general wellness, Yoga serves well being of society and humanity, as scores of ailments are possible to be cured by following the tenets of Yoga. This can be opted as single or as a combination of Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation in India, as overall package to enjoy travel tourism in India.

Meditation Tourism in India
Meditation and Yoga are synonymous with India and Indian spirituality. There are many centers or Ashrams in India where discourses and practical aspects of meditation are imparted as a pious package.  In line with traditional meditation, Rishikesh (in Uttaranchal) is one of the holiest cities in India. Rishikesh is not just known for its religious connection but also for its beautiful landscape. Surrounded by hills (the Lesser Himalayas) on three sides and holy Ganga River flowing through it, Rishikesh is an ethereal experience. Rishikesh is the gateway to famous Chardham which are Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. In fact Rishikesh is a favourite of those coming to meditate and seek salvation. It is believed that meditation on the land of this holy place leads to salvation.   Every year many people come here in the ashrams to meditate and gain peace of mind. The place is also very famous with foreigners who come to India in search of spiritual quest.  A completely different kind of spa is the world famous Igatpuri resort where you can learn Vipassana, the 2500-year-old art of meditation practiced and taught by Lord Buddha.

Rishikesh is famous for its ashrams on the banks of Ganga, at many such ashrams yoga is practiced and taught regularly. Such is the feeling of Rishikesh that even Beatles could not escape from the magical experience. They had visited India in 1960 to pay visit to their Guru in Rishikesh. What else works in Rishikesh's favour is its altitude (1360 metres). It is higher than other holy cities of Haridwar and Varanasi, the water in Ganga here is cooler and cleaner. The flow of the river is stronger here and the city is less populated than others. It is calmer and peaceful here. It is such a beauty, the water gushing from the Himalayas, the banks dotted with ashrams and temples (both ancient and recent) and a hilly landscape in the background of all this, Rishikesh is truly amazing. A different kind of stream is the learning of Vipassana, the 2500-year-old art of meditation practiced and taught by Lord Buddha. A seeker at Igatpuri is kept completely isolated from outside the world for the entire duration of meditation session, and even no communication is permitted with any of the inmates.

The art of meditation: There are mainly three steps that need to be followed in Vipassana. First, you practice abstinence from actions, which cause harm as well as the five moral precepts, no killing, stealing, lying, sexual misconduct or alcohol etc. It's tough, real tough getting up at four in the morning and sitting in silent meditation; no conversing through the day till your voice is a stranger to yourself. For the first three-and-a-half days, you practice meditation, focusing on breath control. This is supposed to help develop control over the unruly mind. The third step, undertaken for the last six-and-a-half days, is the practice of Vipassana: one penetrates one's entire physical and mental structure with the clarity of insight.

In meditation the main benefits you achieve (1) improved mental functioning, greater intuition as well as greater access to unconscious resources and abilities; (2) the mind becomes calmer and discursive or confusing thought begins to slow; (3) larger perspectives and increasing clarity of thought; and (4) destructive habits simply get dropped away with minimal conscious effort and there is a realization of spiritual growth.

The greater nuances of meditation can only be experienced personally as a single option or in a power packed combination of Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation in India when you come to enjoy travel tourism in India.
